Switching to NBI: What You Need to Know First
NBI broadband is different from switching between normal providers. Because NBI is a dedicated fibre network, you can't just change your plan online — you need an NBI-certified installer to bring a physical connection to your property. This guide walks you through every step.
Check Your Coverage
Before anything else, confirm NBI is available at your address. Enter your eircode or address on our coverage checker. If your area isn't in the NBI rollout yet, we'll keep your details on file and contact you when service becomes available.
Choose Your WebWorld Plan
Three plans available — Standard (500Mbps/€50), Premium (1Gbps/€60), or Ultrawave (2Gbps/€70/month). All include a free router and email migration. No setup fees.
Place Your Order
Order online, by phone on (01) 495 1112, or through our contact form. We won't take payment until your NBI connection is active and confirmed working. You'll receive an order confirmation email with your expected installation date.
NBI Schedules Installation
NBI will contact you directly to schedule an installation visit. This typically happens within 4–8 weeks of ordering. The visit involves running a fibre cable from the street to your property and installing a Network Termination Device (NTD) inside your home.
Installation Day
You'll need someone at home for the installation. The technician will discuss where to route the fibre (ideally where your current broadband enters), install the NTD, and test the connection. Allow 2–4 hours. Your WebWorld router will be connected and tested before the technician leaves.
Go Live
Once the installation is complete and tested, your NBI broadband is live. Your router will show an active connection. We'll send you a confirmation email with your account details and first invoice date. From this point, your old provider can be cancelled.
Keep your existing broadband active until your NBI connection is confirmed live and working. This avoids any gap in service. We recommend scheduling the cutover for the same day as your installation.
What to Have Ready Before You Order
- Your current provider name
- Contract end date (if in contract)
- Eircode / full address
- Contact phone number
- ID for account setup

Common Questions About Switching
Will I need a new router?
WebWorld provides a router free on all plans. You can use your own router if it's compatible — our team will confirm before you order.
How long does the NBI installation take?
The physical installation visit typically takes 2–4 hours. The NBI technician will test everything before leaving.
Can I keep my email address?
Yes. If you're switching from another provider, we can migrate your existing email accounts to WebWorld at no extra cost.
What if NBI isn't available yet?
Register your interest and we'll notify you when your address becomes eligible. You won't miss out on the opportunity to switch.
Do I need a phone line?
No. NBI broadband is completely separate from your phone line. If you're currently paying for line rental, switching to NBI will eliminate that cost entirely.
Can I switch if I'm in a contract?
Yes, but check your contract end date first. Most providers charge an early exit fee. We always tell you what to expect before you commit.
